Green, John, Smyth and Cooper enjoy a boat ride
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, April 28, 2026.– Before picking up their clubs and heading onto the course, four players set to compete in the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba enjoyed a boat ride through the lagoon surrounding El Camaleón Golf Course.
Melanie Green, Leah John, Riley Smyth, and Hailee Cooper were amazed from the moment they walked toward the small dock, taking in the area’s unique vegetation. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Cooper as she reached out to touch the branch of a palm-like tree.
In high spirits, the four players boarded the boat. To accompany their ride, they were served garlic chips and plantain chips in traditional clay bowls, which they sampled with curiosity. One of them even paused to smell the snack before tasting it.
The flavors did not disappoint. After their initial hesitation, they enjoyed the food freely as the boat drifted away from the dock. The players expressed their appreciation for the experience, taking time to relax just days before competition begins. With some luck, they might even spot a turtle or a crocodile—common sights that often surprise visitors on lagoon tours. The crocodile population is carefully monitored by expert biologists to ensure the safety of both guests and the animals.
Mayakoba’s privileged location in the Riviera Maya offers a unique connection with nature, providing an unforgettable experience for those who visit.
